Bloomingdale's
Neighborhood: East 50s
Type of Place: Department Stores
Description:
Bloomie’s isn’t just a tourist destination—New Yorkers love it too! The signature “Brown Bag” means one thing – that the carrier of the bag had a glorious time shopping! There is spacious floor after floor (nine in all) full of merchandise in this hallowed temple of fashion, with many designer labels – you’ll find a few basic department store brands that are also carried at Lord & Taylor and Macy’s, but you’ll also find the hot designers of the moment, and great store label brand items too. If you’re a shoe hound, you’ll be in heaven, although trying to locate a clerk to bring you the shoes you want to try on can be frustrating beyond words. Sale days are often a chaotic madhouse; be forewarned! Looking for a slightly different Bloomie’s experience? Take yourself down to Soho, where a second Bloomingdale’s location has been recently opened in the midst of the shopping destination that trendy Soho has become. - --Molly, Summer 2005
