Join us for this special 'only in New York' holiday event! Christmas and New Year's traditions we now celebrate are a curious mix of English, German & Celtic customs which were brought together in great detail in Washington Irving's "Old Christmas: From The Sketchbook of Washington Irving." This highly-fictionalized "diary" is known for its quaint and descriptive account of Irving's 1820 Christmas holiday at a manor house in Yorkshire and became the blueprint for how Americans (primarily New Yorkers) in the 19th century began to adopt European food, decor, music, and seasonal entertainments as their own. Join us for this special event that will begin with a short tour of 1840's New York followed by a holiday history. We'll be serving a traditional holiday punch and other treats. Michael Rayhill will lead this event.
