The recently opened DSW (Designer Shoe Warehouse) on 34th Street is three floors of absolute shoe mania. The sleek modern looking interior of the sneaker and dress shoe paradise adds to its appeal, causing shoppers to want to take their time as they browse through the thousands of shoes. While the 33,000 square foot space with its high ceilings makes for a calm shopping environment, crowds tend to huddle around brand name designs, a key factor that other discount centers lack, which can raise the anxiety level.
An escalator from 34th Street takes you to the first floor of DSW, home to the women’s designer shoe and wedding shop. The deeply discounted heels, sandals, flats, and wedges are neatly arranged in long, massive aisles, dotted with benches to allow for try on. Dress sandals from Franco Sarto, Ralph Lauren, Giuseppe Zanotti, and Givenchy ranged from $20 all the way up to $600 (given the original $1,000 price tag, that’s not too shabby).
Ride up to the second floor of DSW and enter the comfort zone. Hundreds of summer sandals will run you less than $50, as will the numerous flats and sneakers from Nike, Puma, and Converse, to name a few.
The third floor is the vast men’s section, with everything from dress shoes, athletic sneakers, Converse, boat shoes, and flip-flops. Summer sandals and many sneakers are under $50 here as well, with the average price for a Converse sneaker about $44.95. The popular Sperry Top-Siders are on hand in bulk in the same colors that you’ll discover at your local department store, only $10 cheaper here.
In the very back of the men’s section you will find a large sale selection for both men and women. Shoes are arranged neatly according to size, slashing already reduced prices by nearly half, if not more.
With ample affordable shoes and a peaceful, stylish environment despite its hectic, Midtown surroundings, you’d be foolish not to try this DSW on for size.
