Dark Room
Neighborhood: Lower East Side
Type of Place: Bars
Description:
The Talking Heads were playing on the juke box when I walked into this Lower East Side watering hole.
Dark Room is a self-described rocker bar where you are also likely to hear bands Judas Priest and led Zeppelin. The bar itself is below ground. Look for the small bar sign and then walk down a flight of stairs. The space is dimly lit as the name suggests with deep red walls and curvy leather banquettes.
Dark Room is a late night bar. We're told the crowds start piling in around 11pm on weekends, with another late night burst at around 2am. There's no live bands, but they do have dj's spinning the tunes.
Mixed drinks will run you around $7, while beers go for $5. And be prepared to be carded. I look way over 21 and still got proofed. It was quite flattering, although I'm told it's due to heavy policing.
