FAO Schwarz is back! The toy retailer known for offering a bit of glitz and glam is once again putting a gleam in the eyes of children with its oversized stuffed animals and a 27-foot tall rocket ship. There is an adoption center complete with nurses caring for newborn dolls in need of a home, and a huge vat of stuffing for bringing teddy bears to life. At a nearby science area, kids can watch a volcano blow. (And also do it at home.) The giant piano keyboard, made famous in the 1988 film “Big,” starring Tom Hanks, makes a triumphant return, as does the animated clock tower which will give you a wink if you watch long enough. Kids will also get a kick out of the supermarket section where they can push a shopping cart while filling it with fruits and veggies just like mom and pop. Candies, robots and Barbie also makes an appearance. In fact, Barbie’s entire crew is here, along with other exclusive toys and children’s clothing. FAO Schwarz’s reputation for extravagance also lives on with a life-size gorilla and rocking horse for sale. And if you have a spare $25,000 to spend, there is a drivable, child-size ruby red Mercedes Benz covered with 44,000 Swarovski crystals with your kid’s name on it. The new FAO Schwarz is located at 30 Rockefeller Center, just steps from where the Christmas tree is lit each year. It’s good to have it back in the city! See more
