The legendary department store has its roots in Boston, but New Yorkers also know how to scout out a good bargain. Famous maker brands are significantly reduced, and there’s always great deals to be discovered. In addition to regular low prices, Filene’s Basement has several special events each year – one of the most famous is “The Running of the Brides,” where thousands of gowns are shipped into the store, priced at $250 - $700, and women—who line up for hours before the event—dash in with the hopes of discovering the gown of their dreams. Too much drama for you? Keep your eyes out for Filene’s suit sales and homestore events – significant discounts abound. And, although it’s not the first place you might think to look, Filene’s often has a great, somewhat overlooked, shoe department. Prices are often significantly cheaper than at the DSW in the same area. One hint – if you see something that you’re on the fence about, buy it and return it later if you must.
