G.C. William
Neighborhood: West 70s
Type of Place: Women's Clothing
Description:
Daylight Savings Time has hit--which means, among other things, that it no longer looks to be midnight when we're just getting ready to leave work. (Unless, of course, we're leaving work at midnight--but that's another story.) The air's a little balmier, the jackets a little lighter; spring is on the way. And a celebration of the season is in full bloom in the windows of G.C. William, which made them impossible for this shopping explorer to pass by.
Cutely, the shop gives proper names to many of its wares: I loved the "Jordan dress," a light knit in cherry red from Revolver ($106); the swingy "Emma dress" from Tart in dusty pink ($183); the red and purple "Amy" tank dress from Revolver ($132); and the white terry "Nola hoodie" from Kritik ($150). A baby blue square-neck cardigan with short sleeves from Sweet Romeo ($54) will be perfect for any mild spring day; and a royal blue baby doll tank with blue, green, and yellow trim from C&C California ($64) seems, just by hanging on its hanger, to promise great summer weather coming up.
Shoes and jewelry are also available, to complete any outfits you're putting together. And I had fun glancing at the newprint clips of celebrities in clothes the shop (and its sister location, at 1137 Madison Avenue) offers up--or browsing in the shop itself. Hi, Jessica Simpson! Hello, Anne Hathaway! Love your dress! So kick off the boots, shrug off the parka, remember that you've got a body somewhere under all those layers, and get ready to bring it back into the world in these cheery styles. Happy springing.
