The store’s motto is that they have carried “The best, the only, -to-and the unexpected” for 157 years, aiming to sell products that solve unique problems, or accentuate personal lifestyles. Here’s a trivia fact that will make you look smart: this store that now serves as a temple of items for luxury lifestyles had very humble beginnings: it was started by two German immigrants (makes the name make a little more sense, doesn’t it?) as a hardware store in the Bowery district! -Molly, 2005
