CityArts, a 45-year-old public arts not-for-profit, has teamed with Disney to restore and recreate a 210-foot long mural first created after 9/11 in the lower east side. This will be the first 3d outdoor mural in NYC. On Wednesday, November 6, 2013 at 4pm, at the Henry M. Jackson pPlayground, the organizations will celebrate the completion of the mural with the last brushstroke and a ribbon cutting. The host of the event is Lori Stokes, WABC-TV Eyewitness News anchor and in attendance will be NYC parks commissioner William Castro, NYC council member Margaret Chin, Benjamin Moore chief operating office David Melancon, CityArts executive and creative director Tsipi Ben-Haim, artist, Yanusz Gilewicz. Additionally, children, families and volunteers from CityArts, Disney, the Henry and Grand Street Settlements, HS296, One to World and Dosomething.org who contributed to the mural will attend. CityArts brings young people and professional artists together to create public art. The goal of CityArts is to motivate young people to harness the power of creativity to help improve their communities and to become active participants in the creative process locally and around the world.
