Description:

I love antiquing, and during a recent visit to The Brooklyn Flea, I fell instantly in love with almost everything being offered at Huntress Home.

The Huntress offers pristine examples of Americana, including lots of glassware from the '50s and '60s.  It is the kinda stuff you might find in grandma's cupboard or remember growing up with as a kid.  In other words, it's a true blast from the past.

I stopped in looking for an umbrella stand but would have been just as happy walking away with a number of other items.  High on that list a set of eight swan glasses with a swan-shaped metal caddy marked "unusual" for $78.  There were drinking glasses with red, white and blue ribbons available for the taking ($38) along with a menagerie of six tall Libbey "carousel" glasses ($48).  I could picture myself eating homemade custard from the pumpkin-colored Fire King "Kimberly" bowls priced at $18.  A blue polka dot pitcher sat next to "mod" aqua blue-stemmed glasses.   On a prior visit, I spied a great selection of glass tumblers that any budding bartender would savor.

Initially, I felt some of the items were priced at the high end.  Then I thought about it.  For the most part, these are all fragile items that survived the passage of time without a chip or ding.  All of the sudden they felt downright cheap.

I left empty-handed, bent on tracking down that perfect umbrella stand which I have yet to find.  But I still have hope.  I left my name with the Huntress.
