Description:

For sassy, punchy hotshot outfits, head to Intermix. They’ve got various locations throughout the city from the West Village to the Upper West Side, but this review is going to focus on the SoHo location. Indicative of its name, this shop carries the entire spectrum of fashion goods from the hottest European styles to mod American must-haves. You’ll find labels like LaRok, Mint, Ya Ya, along with more popular designers like Chloe and Michael Kors. Handbags, dresses, shoes, jeans…Intermix is a true fashion melting pot mimicking its neighborhood.

Price wise, don’t expect cheap. This store is for grabbing the latest Helmut Lang sweater or the Rag &Bone simple white tee the second it hits the racks. Caveat Emptor: Intermix is always teeming with a slew of eager fashionistas looking to pick up the latest exclusives before anyone else does…so if you are in the market for a “Just-In” item, grab it quickly, for it won’t be around for long.

That Helmut Lang sweater I mentioned…it’s a plaited V-neck for $425. And the Rag & Bone Tee will cost you $395.Accessories are just as pricey, but worth it, because you’re looking at items that you won’t find in many other stores throughout the city. Somehow, Intermix gets their hands on inventory before anyone else does. Last time I visited, I spotted a series of over-the-top gorgeous scarves, none less than $300. I am not one to splurge, especially when it comes to accessories, but I caved in and bought an amazing lightweight scarf flaunting a seductive blue snake print and embellished with a frayed edge. The scarf is made of 90% modal, 10% cashmere and feels like silk around my neck. For $385, you can call me crazy for purchasing it, but I’ve got no regrets. It’s a scarf for all seasons, so I’ll be donning this accessory throughout the year. By the way, the designer is Yigal Azrouel – I’ve never heardof him, but will be keeping my radar on the label, for sure.

Service at Intermix is known to be a bit undependable. The staff is a bit snooty and somewhat unavailable, so if you are the type of shopper that needs a helping hand to walk you through the racks, this boutique isn’t for you. But if you’re like most NYC shoppers, hot for the chase when it comes to the latest and greatest, claw your way through the buzzing streets of SoHo and get what you want at Intermix.
