Neighborhood: East 70s
Type of Place: Gift Shops
Description:
The first thing I noticed was a spectacular spray of color in the window. They were cosmos is bright oranges, reds and yellows. The bouquet simply said summer. There was just one problem -- they weren't real. A closer look revealed some of the best fakes I've ever seen. Turns out they were silk flowers that looked so fresh even bees would be buzzing around these babies. Inside the bouquet grew to include roses and hydrangeas, even tall branches of magnolias. Simply amazing.
But that's just the tip of the iceburg at Keesal & Mathews, a lovely gift shop in Carnegie Hill which you'll want to make note of especially for the holidays, weddings and other special events.
We found all sorts of goodies from elegant hand-blown glasses with swirls of blue and green, a waterlily pitcher complete with its own leaping frog on the handle, and watermelon plates and bowls (seeds and all). Here you'll also find everything for the table from silver napkin holders and fine china to oversized ceramic bowls and lovely vases. I envisioned Thanksgiving turkey on a large white platter bordered by grapes, while Lily of the Valley plates would work well for a spring luncheon. There are also linens and candles. And the list goes on. All on display with tender loving care. - Thomas Rafael
