Description:
My best friend recently dragged me kicking and screaming to go bridal shop-hopping with her. Although I am stoked about her recent engagement, my divorced self has been cringing at the thought of wedding dress shopping. Good thing we walked into Lovely Bridal Shop – it actually renewed my faith in the whole process of getting married, no matter how long the sacrament lasts. I may even do it again myself.
Lovely is the perfect spot to hop to before getting hitched, especially if you are looking for a dress that straddles the fence between the vintage and classical looks. Their selection is astonishingly versatile, and their price points are even more romantic. My friend tried on about 10 dresses, each totally different from one another but with its own delightful flair, and she finally settled on 3 to put aside for thought. The consultant that helped us, Merritt, managed to pull about 15 dresses that completely fit the look that my best friend is shooting for: bohemian but flowy, traditional but with an edge, no gaudy embellishments and flattering to both her “apple” shape and her $1000 budget.
The dresses at Lovely range from about $700 to $4000 and you’ll find an equal collection of both mainstream designers and those off the beaten path. I eyed cuts by Sarah Seven, Watters, Elizabeth Dye, Badgley Miscka and Delphine Manivet. They even carry some shorter and tea-length designs which I found to be totally sexy for the non-traditional bride.
If Anthropologie had a wedding niche, this would be it. It is totally New York and a refreshing break from the mainstream retailers like Kleinfeld and David’s Bridal. That in mind, if you are looking for a shop where the consultants are going to advise you clearly on what gown to buy, Lovely is not your place. This shop is more suited for the bride who does not mind doing things on the whim. You do need an appointment, though.
