Description:

Phew! We've made it through the Thanksgiving turkeys, the Chanukah
candles, the Christmas trees, the office parties, the gift shopping, the 10
million commitments, and the new year's hangover. The holiday season
can be lovely, and I hope yours was, but it's almost always exhausting.
Time to recuperate, recharge, and...take a bath?

This prospect seemed awfully appealing when I ducked into the bath and
body shop Lush on the Upper West Side. Normally I avoid writing up
stores that have more than one location--and Lush, founded in England, can
be found in various cities throughout the U.S. and abroad; but its
natural ingredients, handmade products, yummy fragrances, and charming
sense of humor made me decide to make an exception. Plus they're having a
sale, called "Clean Slate in '08": Buy one get one free on some items,
buy one get 2 free on others. Appealing bath products plus good sale
plus (finally) some time to stay home and relax equals aaaaaaahhh.

Sniffing my way through the shop, I loved the "Mmm" bath melt
(marshmallow and cocoa-butter scented--in other words, you'll smell like a cup
of hot chocolate!), $7.95 and included in the sale; the "Shiny Happy
People" gift box ($20.95 and included in the sale), containing a
hair-and-body gel, a soap decorated with a smiley face, and "butter cream"
lotion; the related "Happy Soap" ($6.25 per 1/4 lb. and included in the
sale), described as "full of happy citrus essential oils to banish
melancholy moods"; the cheeky, fresh-smelling "Silky Underwear" solid perfume
($11.95 and included in the sale); "Bohemian Soap" ($8.25 per 1/4 lb.
and included in the sale), billed as "specially crafted with luscious
lemons to get you squeaky clean"; and the thought-provoking "Reincarnate"
solid shampoo ($9.95 per 1/4 pound and included in the sale).

Not currently on sale but definitely worth investigating are the
brand-new "Green Party" bath ball (a bath product after my political
heart--and nicely evergreen-scented), $5.95; "Ice Blue Soap" ($5.95 per 1/4
pound), with a minty unisex scent; and "Karma Soap" ($8.95 per 1/4 pound),
also unisex and the shop's most popular soap scent--a delicious
orange-based fragrance. If you--or your hair--haven't quite bounced back from
last month's chaos, "Rehab Shampoo" starts at $11.95.

Kick back, run the tub, put on some music you love, and prepare to feel
your muscles unclench. Or if getting back into the swing of a work
morning is proving a problem, a new and kicky scent for the shower might
be just the ticket. In any case, maybe, after buying gift after gift for
others last month, it's time to pick up something for yourself. And
if--good for you!--you're still feeling generous, the sale will make it
easy to give as well as receive.
