Description:
Prepare yourself for a retro treat upon entering the Opening Ceremony at the Ace Hotel on 29th Street. This funky little shop holds heaps of goodies - a museum of sorts for edgy jewelry, up and coming designers, rare candy and quirky pharmacy-like products.

Keeping in mind that this is a store within a hotel, Opening Ceremony puts a delightful twist on your average, mundane hotel gift shop and offers up quality facial and body products from Kiehl’s and vintage looking products from Merchant and Mills, such as a rustic box of safety pins and toothbrushes. Also available in this small yet fun section is a library of DVDs from The Criterion Collection, with titles like Summer Hours, White Material and The Darjeeling Limited, as well as Lomography cameras, hard-to-find snacks from Haribo and Walkers crisps, a newsstand chock full of hipster literary magazines, Mad Libs, and stationary.

Lets’ not forget the basis of Opening Ceremony - a wonderful array of clothing from emerging and popular designers. The largest collection of clothing on hand is from T by Alexander Wang and Vision Street Wear by Chloe Sevigny’s. Created strictly for the shop, the line “Chloe Sevigny for Opening Ceremony” offers apparel resembling Sevigny’s signature look from a Bustier Dress for $180 to the cute Crop Lace Top for $370. Be sure to also check out the brand Acne while there, on hand from this line is their comfortable Linen Pants for $280. Another do-not-miss is Opening Ceremony’s own line with great finds such as their Sherpa Cardigan for $405.

Heaps of expensive jewelry is displayed like treasure. Even if you can’t afford a $600 gold animal ring, with modern themes galore these gold and silver designs are simply fun to look at. Other accessories at Opening Ceremony are Leight and Illesteva sunglasses and Indian blanket Pendleton Bags.

If you’re staying the night in the Ace Hotel or not, Opening Ceremony is a must-visit store. Fun gifts, fabulous fashions and unique discoveries will make this among the most imaginative hotel shop you’ll ever step foot in.   - Caitlin Colford
