Welcome to the popular Odin’s sister store where the designs are original (most pieces are hand-stitched, believe it or not). The result: a perfectly beautiful addition to your wardrobe that you can wear right away, not set aside for tailoring when you’ve got the time.
The brands you’ll find at Pas de Deux are Phillip Lip, Rag and Bone, Karen Walker, Alexander Wang and other lesser-known but equally as talented designers. I spied a pair of Rag and Bone jeans for $80 and swiped them immediately, because not only did they fit to a T, but they were probably the least expensive item in the boutique. (Most items you’ll find here will fall in the $200-$300 range).
Shoes, shoes, shoes….yes Pas de Deux carries them, too. From Rag and Bone oxfords to Reppeto heels (I tried on a pair for $239) to Loeffler Randell shoes, the footwear is well-edited and if you’ve got money to blow, I’d definitely recommend a look-see and try-on.
The atmosphere at this shop is a little odd. The space is small, but jammed (not messily) with top-notch, high-quality goods and unlike other high-end NYC boutiques, Pas de Deux seems to pull in quite a barrage when it comes to clientele. I don’t know about you, but it seems like every time I walk past one of these modish hot-spots it’s empty save for a couple of people who are most likely just browsing. There were at least ten shoppers at Pas de Deux when I last visited.
The only bone I have to pick with this shop is the floor staff. The service was less than accommodating and I sort of felt ogled every time I picked up an item to check it out. That being said, we can’t have our cake and eat it, too – especially in the East Village. If you’re looking for a salesperson to take your hand and walk you through the store, this isn’t the place for you. But if you love excellently-tailored clothes and shoes and have some extra cash – head to Pas de Deux.
