Description:
Things you need to know first about Peachfrog: 1) You will not *believe* how inexpensively they offer great stuff; 2) You'll feel generosity welling in your chest ("Who can I buy this for?") as you browse the racks and discover wonderful items that in some cases cost less than one fancy-bar drink; 3) They need you to model on February 13th.

Yes! That day's event, dubbed Sexy Saturday, will kick off at 2 PM; host local bands starting at 4 PM; feature a fashion show at 5:30; and offer free pizza and beer throughout the afternoon. Model sign-up is happening right now, so get to the store and get involved. Not 5-foot-9 and a size 2, you say? No problem: The shop accepts models based on the reasons, stated in the application, why they want to participate—not on looks. No application photos or physical appraisals whatsoever are involved. Get bold, get creative, think about why a day of modeling would be good for you, and you'll be on your way.

Meanwhile, what to buy? Stock—at steep discounts from the normal retail prices—is always changing, but we found the following steals: Betsey Johnson dresses, $50—some for right now, now, some for summer, and a strapless red number with ruffled tiers and a black sash that will be perfect for Valentine's Day; "Torn" t-shirts, $40 (short sleeves, long sleeves, and tank tops) with beading in red or purple (pretty, not tacky, we promise); a cashmere/wool-blend dress from Viola ($30) in charcoal grey with a chic (not fussy) ruffled neck; also from Viola, a black-and-white-striped cotton sundress, $40; from Traffic, a red and white sundress with a plunging neckline, swiss dots, and red and white flowers at the hem (Marilyn Monroe meets Mary Ann from "Gilligan's Island"!), $25; men's vintage shirts from the 1970s, $7.50; men's Penguin shirts, $25; cobalt-blue tea glasses, 6 for $12; throw pillows in all kinds of colors and patterns, $20; Sartoria silk ties, $10; and all kinds of beauty products up at the front, perfect for gifts or for days when you need a pick-me-up. Join the mailing list to find out about upcoming events and—gasp—sales that take these low prices even lower.

Get shopping, get saving, and get modeling; and don't forget to tell us how your big debut turned out.   - Pamela Grossman; Jan 18, 2010
