Description:
It's nice to know that some shops don't take themselves too seriously and allow a little laughter into our lives.

Such is the case at Pylones, which has two locations in Manhattan (842 Lexington Ave. and 69 Spring St.). The shop offers a nice assortment of quirky handcrafted gifts like frog and cow toasters, or little devil tooth picks. The store is bright, airy and fun. Best of all you'll be able to load up on lots of gifts, most of which are under $20.

We particularly liked the children's books on display, including the "Dirty Bertie" series. We were mesmerized by the mechanical sushi and didn't know what to make of the clean-up-after-your-dog toy. And the miniature sprout garden was wonderful. Now, everyone in New York City can have a yard.

In fact, you'll find lots of wonderful things at Pylones. We're keeping this one on our short list.   - Shopper Sam
