Dive Bars
Description:
Actor Justin Theroux is now a bar owner. Theroux, and his partners, have opened a “dive bar” on Christie Street on the Lower East Side called Ray's. The bar has look and feel of place where you’d want crash after work. There’s a rounded wooden bar with candy apple red stools, black-and-white checkerboard floors and a pool table. Dangling Christmas lights give the space a red hue, while a disco ball hanging from the ceiling makea you get up and boogie. A juke box on one side of the room is banging out hits like “Black Magic Woman” and “Get Your Kicks on Route 66.” Indeed, there old pictures of cars and lots of nostalgia lining the walls. There’s even Great Flags bumper sticker. Adding to the “dive bar” feel is a fridge filled with beers like Pabst Blue Ribbon and Miller High Life, along with cocktails and spritzers. There’s no real food to speak of except for some Zapps Cajun potato chips. For those looking for a bit more intimate time, there’s a small alcove with a curvy banquette at the side of the bar. Don’t be surprised if you find Theroux and his rescue dog, Kuma, mingling with the guests.
