The Theater District is probably the last place you’d expect to find a surf bar. But that is where you will find the Reunion Surf Bar near the corner of 10th Avenue and 44th Street. Walk down a flight of stairs and enter a subterranean tiki bar with drinks that include Acid Drops; shots of grapefruit vodka and juice with a vanilla sugar rim. The Surfer Girl mixes vodka with Orange Crush. There's a frozen mojito that goes by the name, Mermaid, and a Frozen Polomo made with tequila, lime and grapefruit soda. Drinks are relatively inexpensive along with Happy Hour deals. The atmosphere is young, loud and brash with classic rock playing and the liquor is flowing. Bar bites range from Maui Fish Tacos, to a California Baja Burger with “big wave” sauce, and the Dodo Dog, a beef hot dog with a slab of pork belly and iceberg slaw. Surf’s up from 5:30pm to 4am on weekends.
