Description:
Though I'm a firm believer in remembering that summer lasts till September 21--ignore the "Get ready for Fall in August" hype you see in commercials!--it is nonetheless true that college students are getting ready to roll back to campus shortly; and K-12ers will follow soon.

To soften this blow, at least a new school year can be welcomed in with some new clothes. And securing them is easier with a shop like Rime in the picture: a boutique featuring cool and charming "streetwear couture" that will buoy the spirits of students everywhere. And since their summer clothes are now on sale, and we should be set for about a month and a half more of warm weather, this is a great time to hit the store for hip deals.

I loved a black cotton drawstring camisole that could take a girl from class to a coffee date (on sale for $29); a red-and-white-striped cardigan with a ruffle hem (on sale for $32); and a fantastic gold-knit hoodie (on sale for $40), all from Obey. For parties (and if a girl is old enough; call me a prude, but I don't love strapless tops on 12-year-olds), there's also a lovely cotton-knit strapless blouse in black, purple, and green (also from Obey, and on sale for $32).

For boys (or girls who go with baggier styles), there's also a great selection, including Fred Perry polo shirts on sale for $54, Stüssy shorts in green camoflage on sale for $38, and roomy, arty t-shirts from 686 starting at $21.

For both genders, a great range of sneakers is here--starting at $42 for classic Converse styles. (The sale sneakers start at $29--a steal.) Not sure what was going on with me and gold during this visit, but I especially loved a gold metallic pair from Spring Court, on sale for $109. And shoes that might be best described as "ballet sneakers," in stripe and polka-dot patterns, start at $20 (again--steal!). Complete the outfits with jeans (starting at around $60), baseball caps, and sunglasses.

There's a thought--maybe sunglasses can help carry summer into November or so! Hey, a warm-weather lover can dream....   - Pamela Grossman; Aug 11, 2008
