Stone Fox Bride is more than just a bridal shop; it is a treasure trove teeming with some of the rarest, most beautiful items I have ever seen. You’ll find way more than wedding gowns and veils here including jewelry, candles, quilts, dream catchers, flowers and crowns (yes, crowns – so toss the tiara idea ASAP). Carol Hannah plays the lead role at Stone Fox. She is known to be one of the most amazing visionaries in the wedding industry and will work with brides-to-be to either create a dress design from scratch or tweak an existing piece. She is super passionate about her work and is therefore ever patient and tender when it comes to assisting her clients. Her assistant, Dara, is just as helpful.
In the way of bridal dresses, Stone carries an array of genres including classic works like the Vivienne, a champagne colored satin empire-waisted gown with a plunging back and a fishtail train ($2,800) and more outlandish pieces like the Mandy Coon Intergalactic “Cate” gown ($12,000), a hand-sewn and delicately embroidered, sheer peplum dress. This gown really blew me away – it even features a front metal zipper and flutter sleeves, and the best part - it’s silver, living up to its “intergalactic” nomenclature.
At this unique boutique you’ll also find a full line of kimonos. In particular, I loved the June Carter kimono which flaunts a jazz age flair with its ombre fringe sleeves and faded-cherry colored silk. At $1250, the kimono is one size fits all. The piece would be a perfect wear after slipping out of your wedding gown in the hotel room for your after-the-wedding escapade with your new husband.
Let’s talk about those crowns. My favorite is the Dewdrop ($350). It is a halo of fresh herbs including rosemary, jasmine, lavender, eucalyptus and sage and can be paired with a veil if so wanted by the bride. If herbs are not your thing, Stone carries fresh flower crowns, too, such as one I spotted composed of anemones, roses and wild greens. I actually saw this halo on a woman trying on various headpieces and she had it paired with a beautiful silk tulle veil that fell to her waist and featured a chantilly lace trim – it looked absolutely breathtaking.
The quilts at Stone are totally lavish and I have to say there is not one that is more beautiful than the others. Patched with bright colors and exorbitant patterns, they are handmade and not pricey at all, running about $150 each. Their flower arrangements are also gorgeous and not overly priced, but Stone makes it clear that they are only available for brides getting married in the New York City area.
I wish I would have known about Stone Fox Bride when I got married because I definitely would have shopped here and most likely made a purchase. But, que sera, sera… If you are an almost-bride I recommend running to Stone for a unique bridal shopping experience. Even if you don’t make a purchase you are certain to be inspired by the eclectic designs and blessed with unique ideas for making your special day an outrageous experience for you and your guests – and your groom, of course.
You’ll find necklaces, cuff links, wedding bands, and more. The best gem in this store, however, is Nsim. He is a pleasure to work with, is as laid back about the process as he is totally thrilled to get all tangled in it. Anyone experiencing anxiety over an engagement ring or any other piece of jewelry is strongly encouraged to try Elleven on for size – you will be pleasantly shocked at how smoothly and joyous the process can be.
