Harlem has a sexy new cocktail bar. Sugar Monk, located just steps away from the famed Apollo Theater, is the creation of artists Ektoras Binikos and Simon Jutras. The bar pays tribute to the speakeasies that once flourished in Harlem. Binikos, who is also a mixologist, is offering 30 different cocktails that blend “exotic, unusual and mysterious” ingredients relying on artisanal bitters, infusions, and extracts. They come with names like the April in Paris, Absolut Kelly and The Bemsha Swing. Think of it as art in a glass. The “monk” part of the name is in honor of jazz pioneer Thelonious Monk. >>
