Description:
For a truly guilt-free shopping experience, stop by Sustainable-nyc, an Avenue A boutique located in the East Village across from Tompkins Square Park. Specializing in recycled, repurposed, and handmade goods, Sustainable-nyc has the perfect holiday gift for the person who has everything.

Eco-minded shoppers will feel right at home among the hundreds of items in stock including recycled stationary items, organic soaps and shampoos, hand-cut teas, a variety of incense, candles, and home goods like picture frames, pillows, mirrors, and prints.

Personal articles like wallets, T-shirts, beautiful hand-dyed scarves, Tom’s shoes, and a large section of organic baby items are also on display. Shoppers can gear up for the cold weather season by checking out the store’s large selection of woolen gloves. Meanwhile, budding gardeners will keep thoughts of spring alive by combing through a large selection of seeds, plant kits, and other gifts terrific for holiday and shower favors.

Those seeking interesting and funky gifts will be delighted by photo albums fashioned out of vinyl records, notebooks made from recycled plastic bottles, animals crafted from recycled aluminum cans, coin purses made from bubblegum wrappers, and amazing metal vests fashioned from aluminum soda pulls.

Part of the store functions as a snack bar and serves up a vast array of cupcakes, desserts, sandwiches, and coffees and teas. Several tables and chairs offer a cozy seating area for shoppers seeking a break from the weather. All of the baked goods and food items are made entirely from organic/vegan ingredients and extended holiday hours begin in December (often until midnight on weekends).   - Joann Jovinelly
