Description:
To New Yorkers, the word “boutique” usually emits a series of dollar signs in one’s mind. Without ample room for inventory, boutiques must hike up their prices in order to see a profit. However, Teddy, located on Columbus Avenue on the Upper West Side, with two additional shops in Brooklyn, is your typical boutique with cute clothing at wallet friendly prices.
Through the doors of Teddy, along the aisle of trendy shops on Columbus Ave, is a closet sized store, crammed with top quality apparel from under the radar designers. With everything from day dresses to funky jewelry, Teddy has something for every fun-loving woman, with their target audience being the mid twenties-mid thirties shopper.
A friendly attendant greets upon entry, offering up help immediately. This can be one downfall of small boutiques, with not much room to browse, employees can be stifling especially when there is a sale going on as good as Teddy’s. Four racks occupy the store, three of which are decorated with sale items. “All items are 55% off already reduced prices, which can make for up to an 88% off sale price,” the attendant reveals to every entering shopper. Who doesn’t love the sound of that?
With sales like these, it’s always smart to go after items that would usually cost you a pretty penny, namely outerwear like the gorgeous black and white coat by Bb Dakota that is certain to land you some attention. Other noteworthy items throughout Teddy were from brands such as Many Belles Down, Ark & Co., and Ya Los Angeles, who had versatile skirts marked down to as low as $25. The three large dressing rooms, situated in the back, feature ample light, allowing for proper decision making.
The accessory table featured only a few pairs of shoes from designer Dolce Vita, as well as slouchy hats, gloves, and great edgy jewelry pieces. For more traditional gold and silver jewelry, there is a case of pretty necklaces and earrings in the back of the store. Blink and you might miss it – don’t forget to look overhead as their hobo style shoulder bags are hung up along the walls.
Boutiques like Teddy make for a pleasant and fun shopping experience, whether you’re in the market for a pretty floral dress on a dime or simply browsing shops with your girlfriends after brunch. Regardless, splurging here won’t break your bank! - Caitlin Colford
