Mezcal, tequila and rye rein supreme at The Cabinet bar in the East Village. This is the fifth bar from the folks at Cocktail Kingdom Hospitality (Mace, Boilermaker, Katana Kitten and Existing Conditions). 80 agave-based spirits and 20 ryes are available as straight pours ranging in price from $5 to $35. Nine cocktails and four different flights are also offered. Cocktails include the Buffalo Nickel Julep (Barrell Rye #2, Caraway, Licorice & Mint), Caminante served in a traditional Oaxacan jicara (Azteca Azul Tequila, Jalapeno, Lemon, Almond) and Romero (Rey Campero Espadin Mezcal, Genepy, Mango Brandy, Rosemary). Small plates and street foods are also offered, including authentic tamales by Tamales Lupita in East Harlem, corn chips & salsa, and Smokehouse Almonds. As for the overall feel of the space, it's described as "Victorian meets American Frontier." >>
