Description:
Shopping with booze? Yes, please! The Dressing Room, on the Lower East Side, has it all, especially if you’re in to vintage shopping while sipping a cold one. A true original, The Dressing Room, situated on the hip Orchard Street, features an eclectic selection of clothing from new and upcoming designers, with a downstairs area devoted to second hand threads and accessories for both men and women in the size and style of a – you guessed it – dressing room.
Albeit small, the vintage selection is certainly on the cheap side. Neatly organized by color, it is easy to find a blouse or two to your liking. The shoes hung along the wall and seated below the racks are mainly leather pumps that will run you around $30. Other cool finds are a funky hounds tooth sweater vest for $16 as well as a great selection of belts that will run you $10 each on average.
The main floor confines a small selection of tops, dresses, pants, and jewelry from noteworthy emerging designers such as the cool literary obsessed line Out of Print Clothing (http://outofprintclothing.com/) and funky tees from Blondes Make Better TShirts (http://www.blondesmakebettertshirts.com/). Vintage purses are also situated about, including a small Louis Vuitton shoulder bag and a brown MCM leather handbag for $85.
Did I forget to mention where the alcohol comes from? The second half of the shop is a full on bar with a movie projector, often screening classics and awesome 90’s films such as Pulp Fiction. Their cheap Miller High Lifes and signature cocktails make it worthwhile to stay and hang pre or post shopping. To make things even better they also offer free WiFi and have a bathroom downstairs if you care to make a day of it.
The Dressing Room will also buy the clothes right off your back. According to their website (http://www.thedressingroomnyc.com/about.php) they purchase gently used, clean clothing that you will either get cash back or store credit for.
Honestly what more can you want? If your lady friends are out of town for the weekend, entice your man with the “waiting boyfriend,” $5 will get you a Miller High Life and a shot of whiskey. - Caitlin Colford
