Neighborhood: East 40s
Type of Place: Gift Shops

Description:
A cute shop in Grand Central that kids will love, especially the huge model-train set and other transit-related items on display.

The kids, we spotted, were going crazy for the merchanise ("Can I have a puzzle and a toy train and...that thing?" pleaded one to his dad, pointing to something that turned out to be a Metrocard holder.)
There were paper cups and plates for a transit-themed party. There was a
transit-map shower curtain. Replicas of antique subway tiles ($36)
could be great gifts for homesick ex-New Yorkers. An amusing purse bore the
"No exit/Emergency use only" sign ($15). And if you've got a favorite
subway line, or know someone who does, there are route-specific t-shirts
($20)--like the one that said, "G: Bklyn to Queens." (Don't remind me,
I thought, as the G, which never enters Manhattan, was the only train
running at the moment anywhere near my home.) Subway-line rings were
going for $6. And there were subway-related Christmas-tree ornaments:
model train cars ($20) and Metrocards ($30).   - Cititour
