Description:
When I first ran across Trixie and Peanut, I thought it was some sort of art gallery. One wall is covered with rows of miniature dog heads; each with a brightly colored collar strapped around its neck.

It was at that point that I realized I was in a pet shop, or "pet boutique" is probably a better description.

It's an entire shop dedicated to the pampered pooch from the steak in the freezer (dog food) to mini dog sweaters with little wool hats, and squeeze toys that any dog would simply adore.

In fact, the shop has everything that the well dressed pet is wearing these days. There are dresses, formal wear and rain coats, ranging in price from $25 for a Frosted Dog Coat to $65 for the Aspen Hooded Parka to $110 for the Candy Tweed Coat. While sizes go up to 21 inches, most of the items are geared toward miniatures like chihuahuas, dachshunds and schnauzers.

Trixie and Peanut also has designer pet jewelry, including personally engraved heart-shaped pendants that are perfect for pet valentines. We were also impressed by the large selection of designer dog carriers in plush fabrics and leather, from as little as $39 to over $200.

And while I consider myself to be a tightwad of sorts, even I couldn't resist buying a little something for my own pampered pooch. It was a cross between a rubbery frisbee and a squeeze ball that made a funny sound. Yes, I shelled out nine bucks for it. I tested it out on one of the dogs in the shop, but I forgot to ask if it was Trixie or Peanut?   - Sam Sayegh
