Neighborhood: Park Slope
Type of Place: Concert Halls/Venues Bars

Description:
Union Hall has somewhat of a split personality. The front of the place looks like you're about to enter a library or a den in some dark mansion with its massive book shelf and lounge seating.

Walk a bit further and you start to hear the clanging. But it's not from drinks at the bar. It's the sound of bocce balls from two built-in courts. These folks take the game seriously and even have their own league. Old-timers in Bensonhurst: watch out! We had a blast watching the games while sipping ice cold Hoegaardens from the bar.

If you work up an appetite from all that bocce, the menu at Union Hall offers some bar inspired cuisine like "The Hog Wing", a smoked pork shank marinated in Jack Daniels. Then there's the "Jim Bean Casserole", a play on franks and beans served with wild boar sausage, and my personal favorite Milk and Cookies.

Union Hall also offers live entertainment in a downstairs lounge, as well as outdoor seating in a small courtyard. But be prepared for the unisex bathrooms. Individual stalls line an entire wall downstairs. The good news, you probably won't have to wait to go.   - Thomas Rafael
