Description:
It will come as no surprise to you that the owners of Warm, Winnie Beattie and Rob Magnotta, met while surfing in Montauk. The Nolita boutique opened just over a year ago and is located in an old olive oil factory, indicative by its spaciousness and just-perfectly flawed wooden floors. It gives off a seaside vibe intense enough that you may sense an ocean breeze wafting through the space as you browse along its shore of well-curated items including women’s and children’s clothing, some charming jewels and home décor as well.
Next to a group of sweatshirts donning “California is for Lovers”, you’ll find less “surfer-ish” items like Tori Praver swimwear, chic French pieces by Vanessa Bruno and more eclectic works like that of upcoming Parisian designer Roseanna who specializes in corduroys flaunting a distressed look courtesy of the motorcycles of the designer’s boyfriends.
The price you have to pay to look good in New York City is often high, and Warm is no exception exemplified by $5,000 leather jackets, and handbags that run a bit over half of that. The result, however, is a unique look that Warm’s owners are shooting for: that of a “hot, disheveled French girl carrying a surf board”, which Beattie told Harper’s Bazaar magazine just after opening last year. In that same interview, the owners called their boutique a “model-off-duty mecca”.
To start, splash a dash of Warm’s signature fragrance oil aptly called “Warm” featuring a scent ($50/3.5 oz.) described on their web site as “a day at the beach/salt/sand/grit/sweat/suntan lotion/warm skin/kissed by the sun/bohemian holiday/on vacation”. WHEW! Then slip into a pair of flip-flops, namely “Locals”, a brand that Winnie used to buy at the drugstore in her Hawaii hometown and has since imported for selling at her shop for 18 bucks a pair. For the supermodel touch, wiggle into a Vanessa Bruno Athe chambray dress ($306). Polish off the look with a free spirit-inspired necklace featuring a cluster of healing crystals (VK Lillie, $667) – and you’re Okay to Go. Oh, wait – grab a set of Aunti Oti handwoven-in India towels for the apartment; and now… you’re Okay to Go.
Warm carries the perfect ration of items for the carefree and barefoot to goods for the catwalk-craving fashionista. Don’t forget to check out Rob Magnotta’s (who is also a photographer) own craftsmanship in the form of blown-glass goods, his hand-picked collection of vintage books and other quite charming works that have washed up in this boutique. Sail over now to Warm now.
