Type of Place: Landmarks

Description:
It's not exactly the Arc di Triomphe, but it is the closest thing you'll find in New York City.
Nearly $3 million dollars was spent renovating the Washington Square Arch, restoring it to its original glory. And the city isn't done yet. It plans to spend another $3.5 million renovating the entire park, which could use a facelift.

The arch itself, a tribute to George Washington, is engraved with a quote by the nation's first president from the Constitutional Convention of 1787. It reads, "Let us raise a standard to which the wise and honest can repair. The event is in the hand of God."
