Description:
Marimekko setting up shop in the New York and giving the city a great big splash of color. The Finnish retailer, known for its original designs and prints, choosing a location right next to Eataly for its new flagship store.

Inside you'll find beautifully designed items for virtually every room in the house. We loved the Rasymatto porcelain teapot with its sleek black-and-white design and a natural wood handle. The three-piece set, including tea strainer, costs $79 (It's also available in the Unikko design with bright red flowers). Along with the teapots are matching tea cups, cozies and trays in bold reds, blues and yellows that are sure to wake up any kitchen.

You'll also find the Unikko pattern on make-up bags, starting at $35. There are handbags and totes with bright strawberry patterns, and others with wide black-and-white horizontal lines (on sale at $53).

My favorite part of the shop is the children's section where you can find lovely dresses and onesies with everything from flowers to polka dots to bright pink stripes, even school buses and trucks, starting at just under $50. Matching hats, socks and tights make for great stocking stuffers with prices that won't bust the budget. We also spotted some adorable bags for children with animal prints.

Marimekko's kaleidoscope of colors will certainly brighten your day and warm your heart. It's a welcome addition to the fabric that is New York.   - Lucy Turner; Nov 1, 2011
