Cititour Review:
Amarin is a good choice for Thai food on a budget, and they are serious about their spices! Seriously, only order your food ‘medium hot’ if you can handle volcano-hot spice. (For a bearable level of spice, ask for mild.) Appetizers run around $4 and mains are around $8, so even if it isn’t the most authentic Thai food out there, it is affordable, the atmosphere is nice, and you can BYOB.Strangely enough, one of the best dishes on the menu is the roast chicken and mashed potatoes, which have unique Thai flare to them, and the chicken won ton is to die for. The green papaya salad is really one of the best out in the area. It has a sour zing and isn’t as greasy as many of the Thai salads in Brooklyn. The basil duck, which can be made vegetarian, is also wonderful, though the portion is a bit small. And though it isn’t always available, if you see they are serving Limeade, order it!
One joyful part of visiting is the ever-changing display of artwork on the walls. They have a really great way of showcasing local artists and selling the pieces on the wall—with a new artist featured every couple of months. The only off-putting feature is that the vent system doesn’t seem to work, so smoke from the kitchen occasionally makes its way into the dining area. Overall, this is a really fun, family-owned staple to the neighborhood. It has been around a long time, and with good reason! Make sure to bring cash.
