Classic Greek cuisine with a modern twist awaits at Amylos Taverna in Astoria. The restaurant is owned by the Arvanitis family, who also operates Omonia Cafe, a popular spot for Greek sweets and whose wedding cake was featured in the hit movie, "My Big Fat Greek Wedding." The restaurant offers small plates for sharing like Kolokithokeftedes (zucchini croquettes served with a yogurt dipping sauce), Saganaki (a Greek cheese flambé served with tomato jam), Moussaka Croquettes, and Char-Grilled Octopus (with a fava bean puree and pickled onions). Another highlight is the "deconstructed" spinach pie with layers of crispy phyllo, feta and Greek ricotta. Also offered, a lamb burger with truffle fries, lobster moussaka and char-grilled lamb chops. There are also seven varieties of whole fish along with langoustines delivered fresh daily from Scotland. Desserts range from walnut cake with fig ice cream to cheesecake baklava. Coffeee drinks are also available, including a traditional Greek frappe.
