Cititour Review:
The Bao empire continues to grow. Chef Thao Nguyen, of Bao Noodles and Bu'n fame, is serving up authentic Vietnamese sandwiches at Baoguette, a sliver of a shop near 25th and Lex.
The menu is fairly limited with just four sandwich offerings (aside from daily specials). The signature dish is the pork "Baoguette" ($5) made with pulled pork, pate and fresh herbs. There's also the "Sloppy Bao" ($7) served up with curried beef, green mango, basil and lemongrass, and BBQ Chicken version ($5) with pickled daikon, clilantro and cucumber. We tried the Catfish sandwich with healthy-sized chunks of juicy catfish in a honey mustard sauce, topped with red onion, cucumber relish and lots of fresh cilantro. We asked for mild and it still packed plenty of heat. At $7 this sandwich could easily be shared by two.
Baoguette also serves up salads and fresh summer rolls packed with chicken or shrimp. There's also a spicy beef and pork noodle soup on the menu. Wash it all down with a glass of hot or iced Vietnamese coffee. Baoguette might be small, but it's certainly big on flavor!
