Details:

Bar Bete in Carroll Gardens draws its inspiration from the neighborhood bistros of Paris, New York, Montreal and New Orleans. With a full bar, open kitchen and sidewalk cafe (when the weather permits), Chef/Owner Marc St. Jacques (former Executive Chef at the Ace Hotel) and Partner Joe Ogrodnek (Battersby, Dover) promise a playful menu with honest cooking techniques. Look for things like Chickpea Crepes with spicy swiss chard and fontina Val d’Aosta, Crispy Duck Fat Potatoes, and Steak Tartare with boquerone (anchovies) and fried egg. There is a Rolled Omelette with peekytoe crab and seaweed butter. Other offerings include Steak Hache with charred onion relish, tellegio fondue & dijon, Crispy Fish (fluke) with delicata squash & vadouvan (Indian spices), and Bouilli - short ribs with bone marrow & autumn vegetables. Bar Bete also offers an extensive wine list by the bottle with whites, reds, sparkling and orange ranging in price from the low $40s up to $250.
