Cititour Review:

New York's reputation precedes it via film and television, but those looking for Jerry Seinfeld or Woody Allen's Big Apple may be disappointed if they don't know where to look. Luckily, some bits of this old New York survive, notably at Barney Greengrass.

Barney Greengrass is both a Jewish deli and a restaurant serving traditional Jewish breakfast fare. From scrambled eggs with lox to smoked salmon platters to excellent whitefish, all served with a side of bagel and schmear, Barney Greengrass' food will disappoint no one familiar with these traditional morning delicacies.

What makes this place over-the-top and the best of delis of its kind in this neighborhood, however, is without a doubt the atmosphere. The line is usually out the door, and the host is brusque, just this side of being outright rude. No one minds, though, even when you are seated at a table where you have to keep your elbows tucked into your sides or else put out the eye of the stranger sitting next to you: this is the New York that has been lauded for decades.
