Cititour Review:

Burger Joint is steaking out new ground in Greenwich Village.   Yes, this is the same Burger Joint you will find at the swanky Le Parker Meridien hotel in midtown.  And once again it is a simple neon burger that lures you in.  Now, it's probably unfair to visit a restaurant on its opening day, but I couldn't resist.

The restaurant itself, like the one at the Parker Meridien, is dark.  Small lamps illuminating snug booths.  The decor is quite eclectic.  A giant sign reading EAT looks like it was snatched off the set of Cabaret. A  stuffed monkey dangles from the ceiling, while a poster of Princess Di's wedding is tacked to the wall.  God save the Queen!  This place looks like it was put together on a shoestring budget, including the cardboard signs hanging above the counter.  But I imagine all of it will play very well with the young NYU crowd it is likely to attract, along with burger lovers like myself.

The staff looks just as young taking orders, working the grill, dropping fries and making shakes.  The guy running the joint, president Steven Pipes, seemed noticably nervous, like a dad awaiting the birth of a new child.  Things were a bit rough around the edges but nothing that couldn't be quickly forgotten with one bite from a juicy burger.  In that category, the Burger Joint, has all others beat.

Be sure to order your burger with "the works."  With or without cheese, this is the way to go.  The burger is topped with lettuce, tomato, pickles, red onion, ketchup, mustard and mayo.  And while the bun was a bit crumpled, one bite into this masterpiece and you'll be hooked.  The patty is perfectly charred around the edges and juicy as could be in the center, making a trip to this burger joint a must.  The burgers are served with a pile of shoestring fries.  But it's the burger that's the star of this joint.
