Cititour Review:
Hankering for something sweet, I stumbled upon Café Prague in the Flatiron District. I was instantly drawn to the dessert counter filled with luscious Czech pastries.
There were cream-filled horns called Trubicky, homemade eclairs topped with chocolate glaze and powered sugar, cake balls rolled in chopped walnuts and apple squares with cream cheese. I went for the marmalade cookies that reminded me of Linzer tarts. A thin swipe of raspberry jam sandwiched between two flaky cookies that melt away in your mouth. A crescent shaped cookie (I didn't get the name of it) was equally decadent in a simple way.
The cafe also serves breakfast including a Czech dumpling egg omelet, and Prague ham and eggs with tomato and cheese. Other savory dishes include beef goulash, pork schnitzel and beef sour braten with cranberries and dumplings. More than a dozen homemade soups are also offered on a rotating basis.
Despite a disinterested gentlemen at the counter, the place has a nice under-the-radar vibe.
