North Dumpling gives me hope that you can still mange to eat well and cheaply in Manhattan. This little dumpling house on Essex Street is serving both steamed and pan-fried dumplings. The dumplings are made on the spot and the quick turnover keeps it fresh. Pork and chive dumplings are plump and juicy. Vegetable dumplings are also available. You can't beat the price. We got close to a dozen dumplings for under three bucks. Give 'em a splash of sriracha for a bit of heat and you're set. The shop also sells a variety of soups, including beef, vegetable and wonton, along with a few noodle dishes and chive pancakes. - Thomas Rafael
