Cititour Review:

A chic and classy locale in the Hotel Rivington downtown serving only the best of “globally inspired” cuisine with a locally sourced mentality and a funky interior to boot, Co-Op Food and Drink is the new restaurant on everyone's mind. EJ Camp portraits shot on Polaroid's Impossible Project film line the walls, which will give you something to look at during the notoriously long wait time, though the food is worth it.

Sushi and sashimi are expertly prepared by sushi chef Stephen “Neo” Wong. His signature rolls include a kimchi red snapper roll with blue crab (18), combining the flavors of Japan and South Korea, or the Tokyo Lobster Roll (18) with Sweet Miso sauce. On the sashimi side, you'll find the decadent Truffled Kanpachi with Yuzo and Sea Salt (18) as well as the Fluke Crudo with Miso Paste and Garlic Crunch (16). On the “Warm” side of the menu (divided into “Cold” “Raw” and “Warm”), try the Lobster Cappuccino (18) or the Fried Oysters (14) with miso butter and yuzu marmalade.

Though many of the dishes at the Co-Op are Asian in inspiration, the restaurant is billed as a modern American brasserie, and therefore offers several classic dishes, such as burgers and the best seafood – Scottish salmon, yellowfin tuna, black cod and striped bass – “simply done” and served with a choice of sauce and side dish.

Drinks are from mixologist Julio Torres, using local produce to create his seasonal cocktails. The Co-op Blood Orange Sangria (13) combines red wine with pear brandy, blood orange and mango anise for a unique take on an international classic, while the Gingers Snap (13) made with tequila, ginger and guava, brings together a myriad of international ingredients.
