Details:
I don't often write about diners, except when one stands out. Evergreen happens to be one of them.

There's really nothing fancy about it. In fact, it probably looks like any other coffee shop in any other town, or city, in any part of the country. And that's what makes it so appealing. It's a hometown restaurant in the heart of Manhattan.

Evergreen's staff knows how to handle the crowds and does it with a smile. They know their customers, if not by name, then by what they eat. It's not unusual for regulars to have their order taken well before they reach the counter. The staff often puts it to memory, unless you're like me, and order something different each day. But even then they fare pretty well.

The food is typical of what you'll find in any Greek diner. Lots of meat and potatoes, salads, burgers and fries. But breakfast is where Evergreen really shines with fresh eggs and omelettes, over-sized muffins and a great cup of Joe.

Good food, friendly service and
cheap prices for this part of town.
You can't beat it!
