The grandeur of Gage and Tollner returns as the old-time oyster house in Downtown Brooklyn is brought back to life. The restaurant, which dates back to 1879 at the height of the Gilded Age, has been lovingly restored by three Red Hook restaurateurs: St John Frizell (Fort Defiance) and Ben Schneider and Sohui Kim (The Good Fork) after more than $400,000 was raised for the project. The landmarked structure - third landmarked interior in New York City - remains largely intact with its signature gas lamps and mahogany walls. The second floor features two private dining rooms, each with its own fireplace, restored in the style of Victorian parlors where cocktails and dinner parties are held. The menu features oysters and clams on the half shell, Classic Shrimp Cocktail, Lobster and Caviar with Blinis & Crème Fraîche.  For a main course, diners will find things like Pork Shoulder Rib Roast with winter fruit mostarda, Fried Chicken and Broiled Porgy. Sides range from Scalloped Potatoes with coriander and Dijon to Cornmeal Fritters, and Lard-Roasted Brussels Sprouts with bacon and honey. To finish off your meal there is Coconut Layer Cake with lime custard and cashew-pink peppercorn brittle and Baba Au Rhum with candied kumquats, among others. A three-course prix-fix meal runs $95 per person; $65 for lunch.  Additional Options include premium dry-aged steaks, bread service and a soup course, including She-Crab Soup made with fresh lump blue crab and sherry. Sound simply scrumptious!
