After watching the dragons and fireworks in Chinatown to celebrate Chinese New Year, we found ourselves at the front door of Great NY Noodletown. What makes this Michelin-recommended restaurant "great" isn't just the food, but the prices. Many dishes are under ten dollars and portions are large.
We started with soup, one filled with juicy duck, plump shrimp dumplings and lots of noodles, while another was topped thick, succulent slices of roasted pork. You can also get congee with your choice of protein, including frog. An order of lo mein arrives with tasty morsels of roasted pig with wonderful crackling. Other dishes include salt-baked soft shell crab; Chinese flowering chive with shrimp, squid or scallops; lobster with XO sauce; clams in black bean sauce; and beef & chicken served in a taro bird's nest.
Service at Great NY Noodletown is friendly and accomodating. Don't be surprised if you find yourself sharing a table with complete strangers. But if you are in town visiting, what better way to get a true taste of New York. See more
