Hasaki in the East Village lives up to its reputation for pristine seafood and ranks among the top sushi and sashimi restaurants in the city. The tranquil setting and impeccible service adds to the overall experience. One of the most interesting dishes might actually be the seaweed salad. It's made with five different types of seaweed, including white and red varieties. It's quite exquisite. Among the appetizers are homemade shumai shrimp dumplings, grilled salmon in "saikyo" miso, and sliced prime ribeye in garlic soy sauce. Bento boxes are popular here. Diners can choose from things like broiled eel, tuna sashimi and combinations of sushi and sashimi. It's accompanied by shrimp tempura, grilled salmon, shumai, and deep fried tofu in a soy broth, as well as miso soup and a seasonal salad. An omakase (chef's choice) is also offered at varying price points.
