Details:

Roman-style brick oven pizza can now be found in Red Hook at Hoek. Located in an old factory building on Ferris Street, the restaurant boasts lots of exposed brick and the original plank floors. There's a full bar, lounge area and large wood-burning oven in the back. It has an excellent atmosphere and the food is quite good too. Dinner brings assorted bruschetta ranging from prosciutto cotto with gorgonzolo dolce to meatballs (which is a meal in itself). There's assorted salumi and cheeses along with salads, including one with charred beets, sheep's milk ricotta and arugula. But the main attraction is the pizza. We tried the calabrese sausage which was delicious! Other offerings include zucchini, buffalo mozzarella, red onion & basil, and acciughe (anchovy), capers, cured black olives, garlic & tomato. Cocktails include The Bobby Santana (tequila blanco, lime, agave, cayenne) and Tommy's Grace (gin, acqua frizzante, rosemary simple syrup). The restaurant is family friendly and the staff was wonderful. >>
