Cititour Review:

Hungarian Pastry Shop The Hungarian Pastry Shop is an Upper West Side institution: especially popular with Columbia students looking for a bottomless cup of coffee while they study, this café is as much about its atmosphere as it is about its food. The attitude here is no-nonsense: there's no table service and no real menu. Place your order at the counter and find yourself a seat. Once you're moved in, though, you can feel free to stay all day: no one's coming to kick you out.

Even if the food is not the main draw to this café, it is definitely worth mentioning: pastries change all the time, and you'll hardly ever find the same selection, however the cookies is always good if you're feeling snacky, and the tiramisu is a favorite. Be sure to check out some of the Viennese and Hungarian pastries of course: the poppy seed strudel is just sweet enough to satisfy, especially alongside a cup of coffee.

Regulars notice and remark the fact that prices never seem to stay the same, but this is just another part of the Hungarian Pastry Shop's charm. Nothing is ever too expensive, though: you can easily spend a whole afternoon here on just five dollars.
