Izakaya Toribar is a wonderful spot for Yakitori and other Japanese delicacies in Midtown East. The restaurant, located on 56th St between Lexington and Third Avenue, has a lively atmosphere and helpful staff. The yakitori skewers come grilled or deep fried. We loved the Pork Jowl with sea salt and Tenderloin with Wasabi skewers cooked on a fiery grill in the open-air kitchen. Other skewers include chicken meatballs, chicken neck & skin, short rib and pork belly. Fried versions range from from kushikatsu chicken thigh to fried Japanese sausage and quail eggs. Other small plates include Yakisoba (sauteed noodles with porkbelly or seafood), Teriyaki Ika (grilled squid with teriyaki sauce) and Ebi Mayo (fried shrimp with Japanese mayo). Izakaya Toribar is also serving grilled fish, including yellowtail collar and mackerel. Beer, sake and cocktails are also available. It's also easy on the wallet.
