Before there was Emmy Squared there was Jet’s serving up Detroit-style pizza in Michigan since 1978. The chain now has its first shop in Chelsea on 9th Avenue between 17th and 18th Streets with more expected to follow. An initial tasting finds a nice thick crust that is crispy on the outside and light and airy inside. It arrived with lots of mozzarella cheese and slices of pepperoni on top. The sauce has a healthy dose of oregano. It is a very nice slice (or square) served in its own individual cardboard box. While deep-dish pies includes The All Meaty with pepperoni, ham, bacon, Italian sausage and hamburger, and the Aloha BBQ Chicken with BBQ sauce, grilled chicken, pineapple and bacon. In all, more than ten specialty pies are offered, or you can create your own. Wings, salads, classic subs and “deli boats” or stuffed dough are also available along with cookies, cinnamon stick and brownies for dessert.
